PATENTED & FUTURE PROOF
SEED TREATMENT
FOR MAIZE

For the best utilization of the vegetation period.

FUTURE PROOF WITHOUT CONSTRAINTS

MAISGUARD:
QUICK. STRONG. EFFICIENT.

Optimal utilization of the vegetation period: MAISGUARD is an intelligent combination of over 20 natural active ingredients and nutrients specially adapted to maize and ensures synergetic effects based on the patented seedFX® technology. This creates optimal conditions for stable yields.

More than 230 trials since 2018 confirm the performance of MAISGUARD:

  • FASTER YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Improved start with increased vigour (+ 3.5%), reliable germination and faster youth development to move quickly from the critical phase to the four/five leaf stage.

  • MORE EFFICIENT USE OF RESOURCES
Increased root mass  (+ 17%) and surface area provide more efficient tapping and use of resources (immobile nutrients, water) - for more resilience, even under drought stress!

  • YIELD STABILITY
Stress-resistant crop development, especially during youth development, whether in cold, dry or wet conditions - the best prerequisites for an assured yield (+ 4,5% additional yield)!

MAISGUARD is applicable as a seed treatment for both grain and silage maize.
MAISGUARD is ready to use and can be stored for at least 12 months, whether on the seed or in the canister.

MAISGUARD and MAISGUARD Bio are compliant with current EU directives.
MAISGUARD Bio is listed for organic farming in Germany.

APPLICATION RATES AND HANDLING

MAISGUARD

Application rates
For professional seed processing: 150 ml/50,000 seeds (undiluted)
For alternative seed treatment processes: 180 ml/50,000 seeds (diluted, +20 % water)

Instructions for handling
The application rate of MAISGUARD must be adjusted depending on the seed processing technique used and the mixture with other pickling agents. Miscibility with other products should be tested beforehand on a small scale.

Stir with a suitable agitator for at least 30 minutes before use and also ensure homogenization during use. The same applies before transfer to a premixing tank. For the recommendation of a suitable agitator, please contact the manufacturer.

If MAISGUARD will be applied with other components such as fungicides, it is advisable to apply in two steps, the additional component first and then MAISGUARD after a short pickling period. Thus, it is possible to overpickle already pretreated seed without any problems. In this case, aspiration must be used and loose components must be removed by suitable technology before the pickling process. If you are interested in a combined application with common seed dressings, please contact the manufacturer.

It is essential that MAISGUARD is evenly applied on the seed. Batch seed dressers with perfect function are best suited for this purpose. Seed treatment with MAISGUARD should only take place in clean equipment that is not contaminated with other seed dressing residues. Please also check the proper application from time to time during the running process.

When changing from or to MAISGUARD , the dosing equipment must be sufficiently rinsed with water. If solvent-based seed dressings are used, isopropanol should also be used for rinsing before and after the use of such products. Residues from seed treatments must be disposed of properly. To prevent frost damage, MAISGUARD must be completely removed from the metering unit and replaced with a suitable antifreeze agent if necessary. Opened product must be tightly sealed and the original labels retained to avoid confusion of seed treatments and/or dressings and contamination. After prolonged storage, the product must be intensively stirred and/or pumped over. Please observe the storage and shelf life instructions.

SCIENCE & PRACTICE

RESULTS WITH MAISGUARD

The data are based on more than 230 trials since 2018, including both plot and strip trials conducted by the SEEDFORWARD itself, by trial facilities or in cooperation with farmers.

All values averaged based on own and independent trials, compared to control without GUARD product, depending on seed, soil and environmental factors. As of: 04/2023

seedFX® TECHNOLOGY

Patented formulation with crop-specific additives.

The patented seedFX® technology represents the core of our GUARD product line. The complex formulation of our seed treatments is composed of over 20 natural active ingredients and nutrients, supplemented by crop-specific additives.

The individual interaction of the interlinked active ingredients and nutrients, using the resulting synergetic effects of seedFX® technology, extends throughout the entire growing season. Already at swelling and germination, the basis for the successive effects is laid, reflected in the young plants' development and the yield formation up to the harvest.

Through intensive research and development activities, the concentration of the basic formulation is adapted to specific crops and supplemented with additional additives. This means that every GUARD product based on the seedFX® technology is individually tailored to the needs of the target crop.

Amino acids (Am): Increase stress tolerance, improved metabolic processes and photosynthesis, stimulation of the soil microbiome | Organic acids (Or): Improvement of germination capacity, hormone regulation, nutrient mobilisation | Secondary plant compounds (Sp): Reduction of oxidative stress, hormone-like effect, improved cell division | Humic substances (Hu): Hormone-like effect, improved root development, increased nutrient uptake | Hygroscopic substances and surfactants (Hy): Faster and more uniform seed swelling | Micronutrients (Mi): Building blocks of important enzymes, control of enzyme activity, improvement of immune response | Macronutrients (M): Kick-start package for the early stages of development

Our formulation expertise and rigorous laboratory and field testing ensure compliance with all technical specifications from seed preparation to sowing (e.g. Heubach values, sowability and flowability).

CROP SPECIFIC MODE OF ACTION OF MAISGUARD

Increased stress tolerance during youth development due to deliberately induced synergies

Targeted synergetic effects between active ingredients and nutrients, the induced microbial activity in the soil and the plant support the maize in its youth development. The disease escape effect (escape from disease or stress) comes into force through strong above- and below-ground development. The young maize plants quickly outgrow the critical phase and are thus more capable of regulating the stresses acting on them, caused for example by drought or pathogens, in a less sensitive phase. In addition, the organic acids and the macronutrients nitrogen and potassium contained in MAISGUARD increase the amino acid and sugar content in the plant. The effect is similar to that of antifreeze so that the young maize plants have an increased tolerance to low temperatures.

Increased phosphate uptake

Resources available in the soil can be better utilised through the synergies created by MAISGUARD. MAISGUARD promotes root growth and thus enables a reduction of the essential nutrient transport routes in the soil. Due to the increased root mass, mass flow and diffusion take place over shorter distances. As a result, the maize plants can quickly and increasingly absorb nutrients via the more pronounced root system, which are available to the maize plant for further growth. Especially in the case of phosphate, which is not very mobile in the soil, the increased root mass plays a decisive role. The maize plant can access a larger soil space due to the increased root mass, which means that more phosphate in the soil can be tapped and absorbed. Fertilisation trials carried out over the last few years have shown that it is possible to reduce underfoot phosphate fertilisation when using MAISGUARD.
